I'm alive. Just got my power back on a couple of hours ago, was down for about 51 hours. More than 600,000 in Alabama alone were without power. Just before I got mine back they said on the radio that there were still about 300,000 without power.
Got alot of wind damage here, many trees down around the city, coastal areas of Mobile County and other parts of Alabama are destroyed from wind and storm surge. A shrimping industry that was once in the top 10 in the world and had already fallen on hard times is wiped out pretty much. Bayou la Batre, anyone who has seen Forrest Gump has to know about Bayou la Batre.
We got off lucky considering what Mississippi and Louisiana are going through right now. Hundreds dead so far. All the casinos along the Mississippi coast are partially or completely destroyed. That's the lifeblood of Mississippi's economy gone in just a few hours. Not to mention the $5,000 a day that went from the casinos to the school system. The entire coast of Mississippi is destroyed beyong belief, it will probably be a month before they even get power back. But there aren't many homes to get power back to.
It will be more than a month before they can pump all the water out of New Orleans and probably another month at least before they get power back and water service back. 1000's and 1000's of people in New Orleans without homes. Not to mention all the other areas of Louisiana that were affected.
Hundreds of thousands of people without jobs, including my dad because he worked at one of the casinos in Mississippi. The casinos employed more than 40,000 people alone.
This is just not a good situation down here on the Gulf Coast right now.
But again, Mobile got off fairly lucky.
Hey man, sorry to hear about the terrible things going on but I have to say I am really relieved to hear from you.
Welcome back man.

That's good to hear that you're OK.
I was one of the unfortunate people to live in LA in St. Bernard Parish which is closer to the gulf. From pictures that I've seen so far, the flood water is up to the roof of the one story houses. My house is probably gone or totally destroyed. I was fortunate to get out of the city on Saturday night, 2 days before Katrina actually hit. I am living in a hotel right now, and I don't think we can keep this up with the current living expenses with my family and all. This screws up everything.. my education, my job, my LIFE.
Hopefully I can get my life on track.
I pray for everyone else that is affected by this.
